How Woodworking and Crafts are Helping Me Live Independently After Two Strokes.

Gun Inspection - Derry

A summertime day out in Derry.

Quick facts

Derry, also known as Londonderry, is a city on the River Foyle in Northern Ireland. It’s known for the intact 17th-century Derry’s Walls with 7 gates. Within the walls, spired St. Columb’s Cathedral displays artefacts from the 1688–9 Siege of Derry. Near the Peace Bridge, the Tower Museum has city views and historical exhibits. Huge stained-glass windows adorn the neo-Gothic red sandstone Guildhall.

Hello & Welcome
This website is my place to publish my information with minimum restrictions on file size and type. I also have a Facebook Page and a YouTube Channel where I publish videos which record my efforts (post-stroke) in woodworking and crafting.

About Me
I'm a 60+-year-old male currently residing in Omagh, County Tyrone, Ireland. I took my first stroke October 2012.

For the first 13 weeks, I received next to no after stroke care. This was due to an administrative mix-up and my wife and I felt completely abandoned by the system.

So, we did what we always do when we are let down or left behind by 'The System'.

We do it ourselves!

Not very well as it turned out as I took another stroke about18 month's later.

This time the after care was very good and well organised. The physiotherapy was carefully tailored to my needs and the Stroke Association gave good advice and assistance in dealing with the Dole Office.

I had time to think and reflect during my stay in the hospital and I formed a plan to manage my recovery in an effective and efficient manner.

Hobbling and swaying from side to side, slack-faced with a slight eye droop and a line of spittle leaking uncontrolled from the right side of my mouth, I very slowly and carefully got into the car where my brother was waiting to take me home.

I felt pathetic and helpless/hopeless... but there was also a feeling of anticipation for I WAS (still am) A MAN WITH A PLAN.

About My Wife Ann

Ann is a very private person and does not want her personal information put online. However, she has been there for and with me through 'thick-and-thin', even through the periods of black depression.

Have YOU Had a Stroke?

However, start off slow, try small jobs first concentrating on doing each part as best you can. Keep a diary to track your progress. Don't be afraid of failing, but learn from your mistakes.

I hope to meet you on the road to Creativity... mine's a Guinness [_]}
